A Deeper Look at Canada’s performance at the 2025 C13 FUTSAL® World Cup™ in Fortaleza.

The city of Fortaleza known for its coastal beauty, carnival-like energy, and deep roots in the culture of FUTSAL® became the epicentre of youth indoor soccer in 2025. The C13 FUTSAL® World Cup brought together the world’s most promising young athletes for a tournament filled with speed, emotion, and raw talent. For Canada’s C13 National Team, it became a defining chapter in their development and a statement that the future of Canadian FUTSAL™ has arrived. Canada was drawn in group A which was a powerful group alongside host-nation Brazil, continental powerhouse Colombia, and Commonwealth rival Australia, Canada faced an uphill battle from the start. But if history has taught anything about Canadian youth teams, it's that they thrive under pressure and rise to big moments.

Each match was streamed live to an audience of over 10,000 viewers per game on YouTube,CLICK raising the stakes and giving the players more than just a competition but a global audience.

Match Day 1: Canada 2 vs 0 Australia inThe Commonwealth Derby Canada Delivered a Statement Win.

Canada opened the tournament with confidence and composure, facing Australia in what quickly became known as the “Commonwealth Derby.” Expectations were high, and the pressure to set the tone early was undeniable.


What followed was a tactical, intelligent performance from the young Canadians was awarded by Yusufu Sedik's Clinical finish in just under a minute, the captain Dante Delle Monache's strong defensive discipline with a High-energy transitions and the Effective teamwork in key moments Canada remained stronger to break by the Australians. The match ended with a clean 2 : 0 victory for Canada their first major win on the global stage at the C13 level. Parents, fans, and supporters watching from across the globe erupted in celebration, sensing that this was more than a win. It was a statement that Canada had arrived.

 

Match Day 2: Canada 1 Vs 5 Colombia

Canada scoring first through Yusufu in the first minute. The second match brought a fierce test, Colombia being Known for their speed, creativity, and tactical movement, Colombia entered the match as heavy favourites. Yet it was Canada who struck first, sending shockwaves across social media.


For a few gripping moments, Canada maintained a 1– 0 lead, marking a symbolic and emotional achievement for the young team, demonstrating their ability to compete with some of the world's best youth players. However, Colombia countered with their experience, rhythm, and technical prowess. They equalized following a missed clearance by Team Canada, regrouped, and eventually surged ahead to secure a 5 – 1 victory. Despite the scoreline, experts and commentators praised Canada’s heart, structure, and willingness to take risks, attributing the outcome to three crucial errors made by the referee that cost Canada dearly. Notably, three Colombian players fouled Yusufu, and with the referee failing to make the correct call, the Canadian players were left puzzled as Colombia went ahead and scored.

 

Match Day 3: Canada 1 Vs 5 Brazil

This was a Brave Canadian Start Against the Hosts facing Brazil in Brazil is one of the toughest environments in international FUTSAL® (Futbol De Salon or Indoor Soccer). The arena was electric, loud, and bursting with gold, green, and blue energy from hundreds of young Brazilian supporters. But Canada entered the match unfazed, focused, and determined. And then it happened Canada scored first.

The scoreboard read Canada 1 – 0 Brazil, and for 12 unforgettable minutes, Canada led the hosts on their home turf. Commentators highlighted Canada’s tactical discipline, quick counter-attacks, and courageous mentality. CLICK

While Brazil eventually pulled ahead and secured a 5 :1 win, the storyline centred around Canada’s courage. Few teams have ever led Brazil for that long in a youth FUTSAL® World Cup environment and Canada did it with confidence. 10,000 Canadian and other Fut-Sal™ lovers watched the game live on Rede MultTV that platformed Canada a channel that live streams Brazilian Soccer premier League.


For the Main Coach David Velastegui, The Future of Canadian FUTSAL™ was showcased The 2025 World Cup experience provided invaluable lessons for Canada’s young athletes, international exposure and competition experience, Confidence and resilience against world-class opponents, Motivation to excel in domestic and international FUTSAL™ programs. We need a league! I had to talk to the players every game and they would adopt if we had a Youth Semi - Pro league. These players would have won the event. Cultural Exchange and Canadian Heritage

In addition to the on-field action, CNFA President Johnson Luyiga presented Canadian heritage souvenirs to the Mayor of Fortaleza, CNFA Brazilian Counter and Colombian counterpart. This gesture symbolized friendship, goodwill, and the unifying power of sport, further strengthening Canada-Brazil-Colombia relations in youth FUTSAL™ development.



Canada’s C13 FUTSAL™ National Team has demonstrated that it belongs on the world stage. From a historic victory against Australia to courageous performances against Colombia and Brazil, Winning France in seeding to finish 5th the young athletes’ dedication and skill have set a new benchmark for youth FUTSAL™ in Canada.


The Ontario Schools FUTSAL™ League set to launch in 2026 and collaborations with Kyrios Sports ensure that the FUTSAL™ development pipeline in Canada remains robust, readying the next generation of athletes for future global competitions. The athletes became stars and formed new friendships in both Brazil and Canada.We extend our gratitude to all Canadians who have contributed to the growth of the game, enabling Canadians to dream.
